Giraffe and Bird

BLUE SPRUCE nominee 2012

Giraffe and Bird

by Rebecca Bender

Toronto: Cormorant Books, 2010

30 pp.

Age: 4 +

Interests: animals, birds, friendship, disagreements with friends

Giraffe and Bird cannot stand each other. They bicker, they scowl, they argue. And yet, when they finally part ways they miss one another terribly. Back together again, the bickering recommences. It’s all part of their friendship.

Very funny illustrations portray two friends who annoy the heck out of each other. A revealing portrait of one of the many faces of friendship. (It’s not always sweetness and light, you know!) This should really speak to kids starting school and navigating their first social difficulties.
