Mister Magnolia

GREENAWAY MEDAL WINNER – 1980

Mr. Magnolia

by Quentin Blake

London: Jonathan Cape, 1980

30 pp.

Age: 2+

Interests: poetry, eccentric characters, footwear

Also by this Author: ClownAll Join In,  Mrs. Armitage on WheelsMister Magnolia has only one boot. This doesn’t slow him down however, as he plays his old trumpet, teaches owls to hoot, or juggles fruit. And yet… another boot would come in handy when it rains. One of his little friends comes to the rescue with the gift of a second boot, one that doesn’t match the first, naturally, but Mister Magnolia is ecstatic. Hooray!

A carefree and loopy poem about a carefree and loopy fellow, despite being a little footwear-challenged. Colourful and flamboyant, Mister Magnolia is a friend to all (even the parakeets who pick holes in his suit).

If you like this one, definitely follow up with  All Join In, another fun, chant-able poetry book of chaotic, noisy goodwill to all.
