A pause in the proceedings…

And I was doing so well, with a post a day since the new year!! Tomorrow the wee one and myself are heading off for a few days of magical Disney World insanity.

I’m a little excited, a lot apprehensive, having never been there before. It feels like a bit of a ‘Heart of Darkness’ trip, and yet a little Florida sunshine will be fantastic…

At any rate, apologies for the next 6 or so days of silence. Will get back to it as quickly as possible, I promise!

Happy New Year!

Well, I’ve been at this blog now for nearly a year and I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who has taken a look, commented, subscribed, or just stumbled in. I hope my little ‘labour of love’ has been of use to parents and anyone else who just loves children’s books and movies.

And so, with my library card in one hand and my mile-long reading list in the other, I bravely face the new year… onward into 2012!

all the best

Whatever happened to those weekly commentaries?

Arghh. I love doing the commentaries, I really do. Unfortunately, however, they require big long spans of time to compose, and at the moment I can only grab an hour here or there to write or read. (Half-day kindergarten=shortest 2 hours of my day!)

I’ll get back to them some day, I promise. I continue to read and take notes and ponder so that I can hit the ground running whenever I can dig up some extra hours in my day!

If you have any ideas for Commentary topics, or for Top 5 lists, please let me know!

Must run now and pick up the boss from school…

Upcoming Radio Interview!

I’ll be talking about the Rarest Kind of Best blog on local Saltspring radio show “The Beanstalk” with Janine Fernandes-Hayden, this coming Friday, July 29, 10:00-10:30 am (PST).

If you’re nearby, it’s 107.9 FM. If not you can listen online here. (http://www.cfsi-fm.com/)

Commentary MIA…

Yes, summer holidays are seriously getting in the way of my blogging. Namely nice weather, swimming lesson chauffeuring, a puppet show, a new library to explore, etc. The Friday Commentary will return next week – watch this space!

A Week Off

I had (delusionally) thought I might keep up with posts this week, but summer travel and general dislocation derails all good intentions. No posts to the blog this week, but I hope to be back on track next week.

Cheers.

Finally some Can Con!

Looking for Canadian books? I’ve just put up the list of Governor General’s Literary Award Winners – Children’s Lit only – under LISTS, of course. Will do a more concise alphabetical listing soon!

Finally… Peter Pan Overview complete

At last I’ve just put the rest of my Peter Pan ephemera up, in two parts (under Overviews). Sorry it took so long – damn all those footnotes! My essay skills are a little rusty, and the wordpress formatting is a little buggy, or it has been for me at least. Plus I had to orchestrate an Epic Birthday Party last weekend… But enough excuses. It’s done now and that means I can get back to all my book and movie reviews. Cheers.

Here we go…

So I’m slowly rolling this website out… learning as I go. I’ve got a backlog of items to post so they’ll come fast and furious for a while. Apologies for any little glitches, I’ll try to iron them out as quick as I can. At the top of my list is figuring out how to make the lists print out better/cleaner… maybe providing them as downloadable pdf’s?

A lot of Disney stuff coming up today – filmography, reviews.

Onward and upward!

New Lists – Book Awards

I’ve just posted lists for the Greenaway, Caldecott, Carnegie and Newbery Medal winners.

Greenaway Medal – British award for illustrators

Caldecott Medal – American award for illustrators

Carnegie Medal -British award for writers

Newbery Medal – American award for writers

I found the information from Wikipedia and reordered it to be alphabetical by author rather than chronological. (Helps when you’re hunting through library shelves.)
